Smart Parents Push Up Prices In High Performing Government School Catchment Areas Across NSW

Property prices are increasing in high performing government school districts pockets across NSW, as smart parents scramble to ensure they give their children the best possible education, with local agents suggesting the current gains are as much as 10 per cent in some areas.

Some of the top performing areas include the catchment areas of the Hills District schools, Matthew Pearce Public and Jasper Pearce Public in Sydney’s northwest. Homes in and around Baulkham Hills High School area are also on the rise thanks to parents wishing to live close to the school once their child has been offered a position to the sort after high school via their Selective Schools Test results. Unlike regular government schools, Baulkham Hills High School is a Selective Government School meaning places are offered based on academic merit and test results rather than to the fully open government schools that base entry on living in the catchment area.

It is estimated parents have been spending up to $50,000 more on homes within these sought after open entry government high school catchment areas to ensure their children are eligible for admission to the higher performing high school of their choice.

For those parents unable to find their ideal property the to invest in, many are choosing to rent within the catchment area first, to ensure their enrolment school of their choice, with a view to buying their ideal property when it comes onto the market.

Other areas performing well are the school zones of Cherrybrook Technology High School where prices have reportedly jumped 5 to 7 per cent.
